Why does the MacTrek client send the word "Active" to the All message board?

Big thanks to Karthik on this one:

From: "Karthik Arumugham"

The "Active" is because the message box for some reason defaults to
having "Active" in it. So if you click in it and hit return without
deleting that text, you send an "Active" out.

Why do you suppose the word "Active" is set as default when running MAC client.  Is that some kind of signature or perhaps a string require when initializing the client?    Huh

2nd Question:  How come no one else is taking advantage of this nice discussion board beside the administrator and master Yoda?!  Tongue
And master yoda has not reply to my other posting  Cry)

I believe it was set this way by design in the first release and has since been fixed.

The last time a discussion forum like this was launched it took a couple months for people to start participating and then crashed once it got off the ground.  Past experiences with these types of discussion rooms have shown that they usually go down due to site issues or hardware failure then don't come back up.  I would give it some time.  This site has been around for over 3 years and isn't going anywhere and if anything were to fail I could have the site back up, in its entirety, in a matter of days.  Just released the URL for the Help and Support section so newbies will be able to find this area a little easier.

So, is there a way to stop the mactrek client from doing this?

Also, has anyone figured out how to save your custom settings from one session to another using Mactrek client?

Oh, and this is my first post here.

ToadKiller,

I forwarded your questions to the developers of MacTrek.  You should have an answer soon.

Thanks,

Perhaps if they'll post responses here as time allows this board will take off.  There certainly seems to be a bunch of folks using the client these days.

Yes it now defaults to an empty string, and empty strings are not send. There is however no "nightly build" but you can build MacTrek from source quite easily (i hope)

Nope, build from source. Actually, it is the player that activates it. He/She clicks on the textfield and then presses enter/tab or moves the mouse in the maps. Resulting in the transmission of any text in the field.

Also, has anyone figured out how to save your custom settings from one session to another using Mactrek client?

you mean moving the settings from one computer to another ? simply drag the mactrek client to an USB stick and move it. (the settings are inside the application)
For die hard hackers (or people with really small USB sticks) right click the app, click on resources you  will find two xml files (settings and keymap) copy those to the same place in the other app.

Chris

P.s i don't visit these boards unless triggerd... (not enough time) but you can always trigger me (info -at-luky.nl

Actually, my setting just don't "stick" from one session to another at all.  I always have to reenter them, is that not the case for others?

Maybe it is a permissions thing?

Here is the response I received from the MacTrek developer regarding settings being saved.  Looks like it may be a permission issue:

Strange? what happens is that after you change the settings you  should enter a game. (hmm i might do that earlier) which causes the  game to save. But if you have no rights to write in the app ..... Let  him copy it to ~/Applications if the problem persists open up the  console and send me the log, this could be interesting.

Hey,

Finally got a chance to mess with this again.   I looked at the info of the app as it sits in the Applications folder (where it has been all along).  It showed my admin account as read/write and my user account as read only.   "Ah, that's it" I thought and changed it such that user can read/write.

Started Mactrek, changed settings, logged into a non-T server, flew over and died, quit, opened Mactrek back up - settings not saved.

"Hmmm."

I've got a console log of the event  - where should I send it?  Let me know and I'll send it off.  I might not respond quickly but I'll get to it.   I'm in the process of moving cross country.

Email it to narcis<at>luky.nl (replace <at> with @).

He should be able to help you out.
